Conurbation and agglomeration both refer to large, extended urban areas that result from the merging of originally separate towns or cities. However, these terms can have different connotations and are used in different contexts.
Conurbation specifically denotes an extensive metropolitan area formed by the coalescing of two or more formerly separate cities, towns, or urban centers. This term is often used in the context of urban planning and geography to describe the physical merging of built-up areas, where the separate identities of the original settlements may still be visible.
Agglomeration, on the other hand, is a broader term that can refer to any collection or massing of things, but in the context of urban geography, it typically describes the clustering of economic activities and the accumulation of people and businesses in a particular area. It can also refer to the urban area itself, which includes not only the central city but also its suburban areas, which may not be as physically merged as in a conurbation.
In summary, while conurbation emphasizes the physical and spatial merging of towns or cities, agglomeration refers more to the economic and social processes that result in the concentration of population and activities in an urban area. Both concepts are related and can often be used interchangeably, but they have their particular nuances.
Конурбацию, в какой-то степени, можно воспринять как полицентрический тип агломерации (многоядерный).
А так, Эдик постепенно отбирает места у итак мизерного гео-сообщества аска).
Aisford correctly points out that conurbation can be perceived as a polycentric, or multicentric, type of agglomeration. This means that a conurbation consists of multiple, distinct urban centers that have grown and physically merged together, but still retain their individual downtown areas or central business districts. This is a more specific case of urban development compared to the broader concept of agglomeration, which may not necessarily have multiple centers.
The distinction between conurbation and agglomeration lies in the structure and organization of the urban space. Conurbations are characterized by several urban centers that have expanded into one another, whereas agglomerations might have a single core with outlying suburbs and settlements that are economically and socially connected, but not necessarily physically merged into a single, contiguous urban landscape.
Indeed, in the realm of geography and urban studies, it is crucial to recognize the nuances and specific characteristics that define different urban formations.
San Francisco
по сути да
Another conurbation is the combination of the metropolitan areas of San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose and several minor urban centers with a combined population of nearly 8 million people, known as the San Francisco Bay Area.
